About Kathy Klein

Taking care of and connecting with ourselves is challenging, brave, meaningful, and frequently overlooked in the hectic day-to-day experience of life. I aim to provide a warm, empathetic, conversational, and responsive environment for individuals working to understand themselves better and change their lives. Our relationships with others create a complex foundation for understanding who we are and often test us beyond belief. In therapy, we connect all parts of the client’s past and present to their sense of self, strength, and agency in their lives. Collaboratively, we investigate your world with curiosity, and I hold space for my clients to heal, grow, and change in the therapeutic process.

Therapy can look and feel differently based on the client's needs. No matter what brings you into treatment at this time, most importantly, in therapy with me, you will never face things alone. Having a witness to our experience is one of the most crucial parts of feeling seen and heard and, ultimately, feeling lighter. I have worked as an outpatient therapist throughout my career and specialize in working with women navigating life and career transitions, relationship and communication difficulties, family of origin issues, anxiety and depression, perinatal matters and concerns, and attachment wounds. I also have expertise working with young adults exploring their identity and working towards improved understanding of themselves.

My Approach

I am certified in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and utilize this approach with my clients. In sessions, we will explore your patterns, beliefs, and ways that you consciously and unconsciously protect yourself. With this insight, we will re-examine how we can change things to feel more authentic to how you understand yourself and have your life work better for you. I also utilize an integrative therapy model and ensure that every treatment plan is influenced by the individual's thoughts, acts, and unique needs. Some other modalities that I bring into treatment include Internal Family Systems, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness. You are always invited and encouraged to ask questions about your treatment and the goals you have set so we can remain on the same page and this process feels clear for you.

Training And Experience

I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with my Master's in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Before working as a therapist, I taught 9th and 10th grade, and I have also worked in the non-profit space fundraising for educational priorities at large and small institutions. I have always prioritized working with people in the communities that nourish them and have found that a systems approach to therapy most closely aligns with how I view the world. Our environments shape our relationships with others, and how we interact with our circumstances cannot be discounted in therapy.

Outside Of My Work

I live and work in Center City, Philadelphia. I'm a true extrovert, and if I'm not working, you can most likely find me exploring new restaurants, walking around the city streets with friends, or playing dress up at my favorite place- Kin Boutique.
