About Susan Span
My name is Susan Span, and I have over 20 years of experience in the field. What I bring to my clients is a warm, unique ability to support them, and hear them in a way that helps them to heal.
I always knew I wanted to be a therapist. I was always that friend that everyone went to for support and to listen. I believe the relationship that a client has with the therapist is essential to make change, and I pride myself on the positive connections I have with adolescent and adults.
Training And Experience
Having worked in hospitals, schools, private practice, and a residential treatment facility, I have acquired a great deal of experience working with children/adolescents with depression, anxiety, divorce, couples, gender identity and eating disorders. I have worked with depression, anxiety, women in transition and other mental health diagnosis.
My Approach
I use a team approach in my practice; creating a team with the family, school, psychiatrist, PCP, nutritionist, etc. I use a Strengths Perspective. I trained in EMDR in 2020 through EMDRIA. EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy technique used on people who suffer from PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, phobias, and negative beliefs about self. This technique helps people to heal old wounds that are stuck in the brain and helps them to become unstuck. EMDR has fascinating results; it can give clients enhanced coping skills and breakthrough the emotional blocks that are keeping them from living an adaptive, healthy life.
Outside Of My Work
In my personal life, I am married and raising three teenagers and two dogs. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Good books, good television, good movies and good food keep me going. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.
